CORTES ISLAND

BEACH HOUSE

Caz's Place on Cortes Island, a beautiful waterfront accommodation, a romantic getaway and quiet retreat.

As you journey here to this wilderness coast of Cortes Island, B.C., by road and ferry or seaplane, you will begin to relax as you enter a world of clear ocean waters, stunning vistas and....quiet.

My custom-built cedar oceanfront home sits on nearly three acres overlooking the waters of Georgia Strait and the snow-capped peaks of the West Coast. It is set among stands of fir, alder and maples, it is private yet sunlit....

This waterfront accommodation has two bedrooms, each with their own bathroom (one with shower and one with bathtub). Hardwoood floors of Russian birch are used throughout the open plan living room, dining and kitchen area. The feeling is one of casual comfort with style.

You may want to wake early to view the sunrise over the mountaintops or catch a glimpse of the deer. Or you may wish to sleep in and let the warmth of sunlight on your face wake you.

Your day, in this romantic setting, may begin with breakfast on the deck followed by a stroll down the woodsy trail to the beach below to gather clams and oysters for lunch. Your outdoor adventures could included swimming, kayaking, beachcombing, hiking, sailing. Or perhaps you simply enjoy an afternoon of power lounging and solitude.

A memorable way to end the day: bathe by moonlight in the leopard-painted, antique tub!

This lovely stylish house is situated on 2.7 acres of high, east-facing waterfront property with a magnificent view of the mountains and islands of Desolation Sound. Located on the south point of Cortes Island, it is close to Manson's Landing, with its grocery store and café. Perimeter trees provide complete privacy with plenty of sunny areas, a lawn, and garden. A trail leads down a fairly steep embankment, through a grove of large fir trees to a beautiful beach below, where there are clams and oysters for the picking. There is also a sandy beach nearby. This small (about 1000 sq ft) custom-built house is completely charming, and is ideal for a romantic getaway or a quiet retreat for families of up to four people.

Thank you for making our honeymoon unforgettable.
The scenery and gardens you have are a work of art.

BOOKING INQUIRY

There are few places in the world ..... which have the perfect combination of “magic”, beauty and energy to inspire us to our depths, as this fairy cottage. It is filled with the love and beauty that nourishes the heart and soul.
The beauty and tranquility of your home was balm to our urban-centred lives.

The Salish Sea is dotted with beautiful islands in the shadow of mountains. Yet Cortes Island has stood apart as a refuge for thought leaders for generations. The creativity of our artists and community leaders infuses an atmosphere of forward-thinking into our daily life. Situated at the outer limits – both physically and metaphorically – Cortes Islanders are leaders in the progressive movement towards self-sufficiency and community.

From Vancouver

From Vancouver take the ferry from Horseshoe bay to Nanaimo. (1 hr & 45 mins) Go north to Campbell river by the inter island highway (1.5 hrs) or take the coast road (2hrs)

From Campbell river take the ferry to QUADRA ISLAND(10 mins.) Drive across Quadra to Harriet Bay (10 mins.) Follow the traffic, everyone in line 8 at the Campbell river ferry is going to Cortes. Take the ferry to Cortes (40 mins.)

Please note- if you drive up on the new freeway to Campbell river the road comes out at the north end of town. Follow the signs for city centre, a right turn off the highway, the ferry dock is behind the Tyee plaza shopping mall close to the Discovery inn hotel.

Ferries to Cortes

From Horseshoe bay the ferries run every 2hrs on the half hr.6.30 8-30,10-30, 2-30.etc PLEASE CHECK THEY DO CHANGE.

I suggest getting the 6-30 am 8-30 am or 10-30 am from horseshoe bay.

The ferries to Quadra island also run on the half hour but every hr.

The Cortes ferry runs every 2hrs on the odd hour starting at 9am,11am 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and the last one 6-45pm.

The two ferries, Quadra and Cortes do connect. So you can take the 4.30 from Campbell River to Quadra and make the 5pm to Cortes (in theory.) It will often be full and best to get there at least one ferry early.

Have food and drink with you as they do not sell anything on the small ferries.

Note the last ferry to connect with the Cortes ferry leaves Campbell River early at 6.15 PM (be in line by 6pm)

It is wise to arrive at the ferry as early as possible as ferries are very busy in summer.

Tips

Please note it is not necessary to bring drinking water to Sowelu. I have a deep well and the water is excellent.

A second year at Sowelu and a second year of tranquility, introspection, rest and peace.
Sowelu, a home built with thought care and love. A Haven - a place to quietly listen to the sounds of nature; a place to get in touch with one’s feelings and thoughts; a place to laugh and rejoice; a place to drop masks and become vulnerable; a very special place to re-energize and celebrate life. Thank you Caz.
